Rory Mannion, Director
I grew up in Bala Cynwyd, but ventured to New England for college where I attended the University of Rhode Island. I graduated with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Early Childhood Education.
I started working at BCSYC in 2007 as a Floating Assistant Teacher during the summers when I was home from school. Upon graduation in 2009, I was asked to join the full-time teaching staff as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher. In 2012, I joined the administrative staff as an Assistant Director and several years later, the Director. In 2018, I will graduate with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from St. Joseph’s University.
My experience in the classroom, as well as in administration, has allowed me to follow my passion of advocating for young children and providing cooperative, developmentally appropriate, supportive learning environments for children to explore, learn, and grow. BCSYC has allowed me the opportunity to be a member of a community that provides children and families with a continuously improving environment that fosters creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love for learning.
Joan Scavello, Child & Family Coordinator
I began working as an early childhood educator with school-aged children and toddlers in 1984. While remaining in the field, I pursued my interest in psychology and obtained my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College.
I began with BCSYC when it first opened in January 1991. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with toddlers and the children in pre-kindergarten. My greatest passion is guiding families through children’s development and working with them to find strategies and techniques that allow children to grow and develop at their own pace, become independent, develop a love for learning, and reach their highest potential. My position as Child & Family Coordinator allows me to do just that!
Kyongye Yi, Kindergarten Curriculum Coordinator
I was born in South Korea and moved to the United States in 1983. I received both my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood & Elementary Education and my Master’s Degree in Curriculum Instruction and Technology from Temple University.
I have been teaching at BCSYC since 1991 and I'm fortunate to coordinate with four superb teachers in two Kindergarten classes. I enjoy discovering new and effective materials and instruction methods for teaching and developing skills in reading, math, social studies, and science.
