Hours of Operation, Holidays, and Closing Information
Our School schedule is important in accomplishing our objectives, and in providing routines that build security for the children.
We’ve arranged for free play activities between 7:00 am and 9:00 am so that Teachers can facilitate parent/child separations and the transition to School activities, as well as have the opportunity for brief communication with parents as they arrive.
More structured activities begin by 9:15 am. Arrivals after that time often cause disruptions to an activity in progress resulting in children’s loss of attention. If you must arrive late, please ask for an administrative person’s assistance in helping with your child’s transition or in communicating messages to the teacher. We’ll be happy to help! Come to the office or press 330 on any School phone to use the intercom.
In the interest of safety, children must be brought to the classroom by an adult who must notify the staff person in charge of the child’s presence and sign the arrival sheet.
The Bala Cynwyd School for Young Children is open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm – Monday through Friday.
- Arrival times for Infants and Young Toddlers: at your convenience.
- Arrival times for Two Year Old through Kindergarten Classes: preferably before 9:15 am.
- Departure times: at your convenience, before 6:00 pm.
Please make other persons who escort your child aware of our policies for arrival, departure and parking.
If you arrive while the Teacher is involved in a structured activity, we ask you to minimize the interruption as much as possible. If you need help in locating personal belongings or with other matters, please contact an administrative person for assistance. They can be paged by pressing 330 on any School phone.
Since we have limited parking space, we ask that you not spend more than 10 minutes in the building for departures (or arrivals) during rush hour. We’re happy to accommodate longer visits any other time.
Children will be released only to an adult to whom the enrolling parent has given written escort permission, and who knows your security pin number. Escorts must come into the classroom or playground to pick up child, notify the staff person in charge of their presence, and sign the departure sheet. Children may not be lifted over fences.
A Director must be contacted by the parent, if an emergency arises and the child cannot be picked up by a previously approved escort.
Children are supervised by the staff until your arrival. Since children often have difficulty differentiating parent vs. school authority when both are present, we need you to take charge and be responsible for them at that point.
DAILY CLOSING AND FEES FOR LATE DEPARTURE
School services end at 6:00 pm. A late fee that covers overtime payment for staff must be charged after that time. See your Tuition Agreement for details.
The School is open on a 12 month schedule, with the exception of the holidays listed on our Schedule of School Events. Please note that the holiday closing schedule may be modified on a yearly basis.
Because working parents are expected to be at work even in bad weather, we will attempt to open when roads are passable. We generally broadcast information about opening delays, early closures, and closings on the School Closing Alert systems of 10-NBC Philadelphia and 6-ABC Action News. We will make every attempt to send a timely email notification to all our families, and we will update our outgoing message on our administrative telephone line, 610-668-2233.
